Circles - Exploring Pagan culture and visuals
The project brief was to explore 'circles' in as many ways as possible and select an area of interest and further develop it. From spirituality to astronomy, we looked at different topics and concepts. What stuck with us the most was Paganism.
The topic we decided to go ahead with was symbolism and visual language in ancient pagan rituals. We studied the pagan cultures thoroughly and decided to create a game.

For the game, we looked at 'The Wheel of the Year' - an annual cycle of seasonal festivals observed in the Pagan calendar. The wheel consists of 8 Sabbats or religious festivals. We simplified the wheel and used it as a design element in our designs as well. We picked our color palette according to the color significant in each of the festivals.

Coven means a group or meeting of witches/a secret or close-knit group of associates. It is also a synonym for circle. This game is to be played while sitting in a circle, and so the name Coven seemed to be a perfect fit.

The game strategy is based on Monodeal. It is for upto 4 players. To win, you need to complete rituals by collecting the different cards under two of the festival categories, and stopping your opponents from doing the same by swapping, stealing and buying cards.
One pack of cards include - ritual cards, action cards, gem cards, ritual explanation cards along with an instruction manual for the game.
