Tried my hand at writing a short script for this fun mixed media project. The story: (tentative title - “No Way Out”) Loud footsteps can be heard echoing through the tunnels. Hand in hand a little boy and his younger sister run speedily. The boy, battered and bleeding runs through the tunnels looking for a way out. In one hand, he holds a small hand crafted chiv carved from what could've been a spoon, his other hand envelopes his younger sisters tiny hands. She was semi-conscious, probably drugged and continued mumbling words incoherently. Suddenly alarm bells ring. Panting with exhaustion the boy of just barely 9 years carries the little girl on his back in hopes that he'd find his way out of the maze of tunnels fast. He could already hear the faint echoes of people shouting and the clomping of boots and guns against the grated floor. Almost like a warning bell for the punishment they'd receive if they got caught. He'd spent months planning this escape to provide his sister a life she deserved. He'd memorised every tunnel but it was slow moving with his sister drugged and unable to walk by herself. This time there would be no second chances. This time if they were caught, they'd die. This thought of death didn't really bother him. Because if he was dead, he wouldn't have to feel the belt tearing the skin on his back, he wouldn't have to feel the sting of the knives slicing through his skin every night. But he couldn't bear to think of his sister in his position. She was innocent still and deserved the world. A loud explosion jarred him from his thoughts. That bomb would've easily taken down the men sent after them. But they still had to leave before the doctor found out what was going on. Almost there, just 20 steps and they'd be free! He came to an abrupt halt, almost dropping his sister, for in front of him stood the very man they were running away from. The man responsible for all their pain and suffering, the bad doctor who had forced them to be a part of his insane experiments. He knew that there was only one way out this time. He let his sister down gently and picked up a few rocks discreetly. He faced the doctor with what he hoped was a hard look, determined to end it once and for all. He flung the rocks at the ground near the doctor's feet, picked up his sister and ran for cover. The explosion that followed was heard for miles. IN THE PAPER THE NEXT DAY: "Famed scientist dies in a fatal explosion of which there are zero survivors. The explosion was caused by what seems to have been a chemical experiment gone wrong.
